22.3 Braves select Julio Pablo Martinez OF TBD This is an invalid pick. You can only draft minor leaguers that belong to an MLB affiliated team. You can repick when you get the chance. Thanks!

Juan Pablo has until June 15th to sign with an MLB team to qualify as a J2 signing for 2017. If he doesn't sign with an mlb affiliate by then wouldn't he go back to the MILB pool. Wasn't that the case for Otani? There are articles that say he will sign with an MLB affiliate since he now has residency in Haiti

Juan Pablo has until June 15th to sign with an MLB team to qualify as a J2 signing for 2017. If he doesn't sign with an mlb affiliate by then wouldn't he go back to the MILB pool. Wasn't that the case for Otani? There are articles that say he will sign with an MLB affiliate since he now has residency in Haiti In order to draft a player in the minors draft, they have to be a part of an MLB team. So any international signing would already need to be signed with an MLB team to be draft eligible in our minors draft. The Ohtani rule for our MLB draft was different. The rule only applied to Asian international players and it was to handle the situation where we knew he would be with an MLB team playing immediately in MLB games and would normally be available for our off season auction (MLB draft in year 1), but since we had to complete our MLB draft earlier than normal to make sure we completed all rounds of drafting, he technically wasn't signed at that point. It was to avoid starting the year with Ohtani as a FA in the league. Here was the note in the rule: Note: For the initial league startup draft, all potential Asian international players with professional experience will be eligible for the draft even if they have not officially signed with an MLB team. Normally, the auction would start later in the off-season, which provides enough time to see if an Asian international free agent signs with an MLB team and thus be eligible for the off-season auction. Since we are conducting the initial league startup draft earlier (October 20), the Asian international free agent does not have to be officially signed by an MLB team. The player needs to be pursuing an MLB career for the upcoming 2018 season, however, in order to be drafted. If you would like to draft this type of player, please provide a link/source that indicates the player is pursuing an MLB career for the 2018 season. If you draft such a player, you would gain the rights to the player if they sign with an MLB team for the 2018 season. If they do not sign with a team for the 2018 season, you will lose the rights to the player and he will become a free agent (and would not be eligible for fantasy ownership until he signs with an MLB team). Initial league startup draft was referring to the MLB draft, not the minor league draft. I probably didn't make that as clear in my words as I wanted to (now that I read it again), but that's what the note was referring to (MLB portion of draft and handling Asian international players). Hopefully I was able to clear this up a bit. Let me know if there's still confusion.
