OK, I don't mean to keep things stirred up, but I had a hand in the veto of the Turner trade, and I feel like it would be kinda chickensh*t not to say anything, and just let everyone else speak for me. Had a busy weekend and couldn't get to it until now, and the original trade thread is now locked, so I will post here.
Yes, I did send an e-mail to the league asking managers to consider voting against the trade. I used e-mail because I thought it would be the most effective channel to quickly communicate my concern and get people to act within the review period. I did not send the e-mail to CHC or LAD because they had already "voted" their opinion of the trade. I can see where that might feel like behind-the-scenes dealing to CHC and LAD, and for that I am sorry. Perhaps open forum discussion would be a better way to go in the future. But there was no collusion going on. (Perhaps a special investigator to confirm? I hear Robert Mueller is looking for a new gig.)
Speaking of collusion, I don't think there was any kind of collusion between CHC and LAD either. I'm not making any character judgments about managers in the league.

Oh, and if anyone wants to post the text of my e-mail on the forum, to get everything out in the open, please feel free. I did not send it to myself, so I don't have a copy.

For those that want it or care: ”Message from (owner of Houston Astros) in the league "Big League Dynasty" at Fantrax: I despise trade vetos in general, and most of the leagues I play in don't even allow for them. In spite of that, I voted against the pending CHC-LAD trade, and I would encourage you to consider voting against it also. I think it is unjustifiably bad, and bad for the league. If you disagree, or choose to let it pass because you oppose vetos in principle, I respect your choice. Thanks for listening, Mark (Astros)”

This to me is tampering2. I think it is worse for the league, that an owner tampered with a trade voting process. Furthermore that yall used a veto to decide the market value of players. The veto should be reserved for collusion. Not to prevent what you personally deem a bad trade.

Other than the guy whose blockbuster lopsided trade was cancelled, does anyone else think I was out of line? I value sportsmanship and fair competition, and a healthy league, and if I'm in the wrong here, I will listen. Post here, or send me an e-mail if you don't want to call me out in public.

I joined this league in December 18 and don’t know any of the other owners. I got Houston’s email and as mentioned it didn’t convince me to vote against it. So I didn’t think it was tampering.
As mentioned, in consideration of the deal I didn’t think it was a must veto trade. Turner has a track record of injury and while I took him as a first round pick for a non-keeper league this year, he gets injured a lot and is close to getting paid, and there were was talent involved in addition to an underpaid Escobar who may be less costly and just as productive in the medium term. Franklin Barretto might be as or more productive as turner at a lower cost and with with a better health track record. The difference in results might be compensated for by paying more for pitching.
If for instance you want to trade a great player on the cusp of getting paid (see my trade of Tommy Pham earlier this year) for lottery tickets, I think that’s ok, and I didn’t see this as being that much different really.
