Hey all,
As you know, we will hold two slow drafts during the off season to get the league started (an MLB draft and a minors draft, 25 rounds for each draft). Since we have many rounds to draft, we will want to begin drafting early enough to complete all drafting before the start of the season. However, we do have the entire off season to complete everything.
I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on a timeframe for starting the draft process. I'm open to starting earlier (November or December) or waiting until the beginning of 2018 (early January). The main goal is to make sure we can complete everything before start of season.
So please vote and let me know your thoughts here. If I can get a consensus timeframe from the league, we'll go with that.
Thanks everyone!

In my new league with the same amount of roster spaces we started in early Jan with minor league draft and then we did MLB draft which started in early February and everything went good. Also doesn't give much time for people to take a break in between draft and start of season. This also depends on time per pick. We had a 24hr limit. if you didn't pick you would get skipped and you can make up your pick next round

I said late 2017 just to give more time in case it is needed (can relax the time per pick limit over the major holidays if people are unavailable) but I am fine with either one.

Either is good but we need to finish with no rush

I manage retail and holidays are hectic. So a little extra time would be great.

Any time after Thanksgiving for the spec draft is fine really. That way the Arizona Fall league will have concluded. Gives enough time to finish before starting the active roster draft sometime in February as well. Of course that is just personal opinion, I'm game for whatever. Ultimately I'm excited to be apart of the league, active Commish & appears to be a great collection of owners.
I know it will be in rules shortly, but I'm curious what the prospect eligibility threshold will be. Are we going to use the standard 130 AB/50 IP & will it pertain strictly to players that have signed?...thanks!

I'm open to either suggestion on start time. But I see starting in Nov gives more time for the draft with the break during the holidays.

We will be using the standard 130 AB/50 IP for determining the eligibility of a player for the minor league draft. And yes, only signed players in an MLB organization can be drafted (no high school or college players).

I voted to draft in late 2017, this gives everyone time to draft their teams. But as always I'm fine with the majority rule here.

Most of my leagues (too many for my own good) draft January-March. It would work better for me to spread it out by starting this league in November, especially since it will be a full draft from scratch.
Plus help to pass the cold, lonely, baseball-less winter, where in Corpus Christi we reach a bone-chilling 68 degrees F.

I prefer starting late 2017 - always better to have more time if we need it, and the pace will also be a bit more relaxed.

Thanks for the quick responses to all that voted! It looks like we have a definite majority to start the drafting in early 2017. I'll post an official date in the next few days, but look for the draft to start sometime between October 20 - November 5. Also, I will have the rules posted throughout the next few weeks, and they will be posted before the draft date (so everyone knows what they are before drafting).
I'm confirming the status of Red Sox and Giants. Once I figure out their status and we fill up the Fantrax league, I will randomize the draft order and post the draft board for both drafts.
Thanks again to everyone for joining and helping me get this league underway! Very excited to get started!

Again, I know it will be in the rules shortly, but was curious if the MLB draft order will be inverse of the MiLB draft or generated separately?...thanks!

Correct, the minors draft board will be the inverse of the randomized draft board for the MLB draft (for example if you pick 15th in MLB draft, you will pick 2nd in minors draft). Ill be making a draft post with the official draft date soon.
