Hello everyone,
Thanks for your help and patience as I work to set this stuff up! Below is the official draft order for the MLB draft:
1 Chicago White Sox 2 Houston Astros 3 Atlanta Braves 4 Minnesota Twins 5 Boston Red Sox 6 Cleveland Indians 7 Pittsburgh Pirates 8 New York Mets 9 Los Angeles Dodgers 10 San Francisco Giants 11 San Diego Padres 12 Chicago Cubs 13 Tampa Bay Rays 14 New York Yankees 15 Washington Nationals 16 Toronto Blue Jays
The reverse will be the order for the minors draft:
16 Chicago White Sox 15 Houston Astros 14 Atlanta Braves 13 Minnesota Twins 12 Boston Red Sox 11 Cleveland Indians 10 Pittsburgh Pirates 9 New York Mets 8 Los Angeles Dodgers 7 San Francisco Giants 6 San Diego Padres 5 Chicago Cubs 4 Tampa Bay Rays 3 New York Yankees 2 Washington Nationals 1 Toronto Blue Jays
The current plan is to start the MLB draft on October 20. I plan to use the Fantrax live draft feature for the MLB draft. However, our league is still listed in the 2017 season, and as a result, will not let me set a draft date beyond October 1. I've reached out to Fantrax support to see if we can hold an off season draft in preparation for 2018. If we can't do it, then we will resort to using Pro Boards for the draft.
UPDATE: Fantrax already responded (fast support) and they stated that we can renew/setup our league for 2018 a day or two after the 2017 season ends. I can then set our live draft for our MLB draft on October 20 at that point.
We will then complete the minors draft on Pro Boards, and if we can get the league in working order, I'm hoping we'll be able to add our players as we go along, just to make it easier to view available players.
I will be in the process of getting the rules out there (I know I keep saying this). I'll have this done in enough time so that everyone can view them before the draft starts on October 20.
Thanks again everyone for joining this league and being patient with me as we work through some of these setup issues. We'll get through it, and I'm very excited to get started!

It's a snake draft, right?

It's a snake draft, right? That's correct. Both drafts will be snake drafts.

I'm completely game either way, but personally I think we should do the MiLB draft first as good portion of the players will be more long term investments that won't have an immediate impact. That way also the MLB draft will be closer to the start of the season & we can see how certain aspects play out like trades, injuries, etc. Again just a suggestion is all.

True, but I think in most cases, owners prefer to build their farm system after seeing what they currently have on their MLB roster. Plus, we will want to get the MLB draft done, since it will take longer (as you have to consider salary of player along with player values) and i think, if we start running low on time, it would be easier to speed up the minors draft. The most important thing is to at least make sure we have our MLB rosters in place to ensure we start the season on time (though I'm hopeful both drafts will be done in plenty of time).

I'm for completing the MLB draft before the MILB draft as well, but will be happy with the majority rule here!

If we were not combining all major league players, I'd agree with the Mets that minor league make make more sense to do first to accommodate free agency but since that's been removed as a variable, doing the longer draft first and giving teams the opportunity to draft minor players based on MLB needs makes perfect sense. If teams don't routinely take 24 hrs to draft we should be fine. I think Fantrax has an auto default setting were it will select for a team as timer goes off. Will we use that or will team simply be skipped and make it up in later rounds.?

Will we be able to trade draft picks during or before the draft? If we wanted to trade down.

This is why i was saying to do our slow MLB draft in january when a lot of trades and signings are done. Its a huge deal what teams player end up on.

Hopefully that won't happen too often!

This is why i was saying to do our slow MLB draft in january when a lot of trades and signings are done. Its a huge deal what teams player end up on. I tend to agree with this line of thinking as well, MiLB first w/ MLB portion to follow to give free agency some time to get settled. Especially w/ a salary cap. To throw out a hypothetical, I'd be un-surprised if Jake Arrieta got 4 yrs $100 mill or 6 $200 mill. Depending on what the cap is, what rules are re: releasing players, etc., this could create difficulties for a team if they made an incorrect assumption. Also, depending on rules for MiLB promotion, it might make sense to know if a player that's drafted will surpass eligibility early 2018 and need to be promoted when building the MLB squad. That said, I'm good w/ majority rule on which draft comes first. It's also possible that the above concerns won't be a big deal once the rules are available. thanks, Bill

Will we be able to trade draft picks during or before the draft? If we wanted to trade down. The plan is to not trade any draft picks for our initial drafts. Our yearly 5 round Minor league draft (which happens starting next off season), you will be able to trade those picks during the 2018 season.

Everyone,
There seems to be lots of thoughts around which draft we should complete first. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts, so please view the new post I made about this issue and vote on the poll (and provide thoughts if you want).
Thanks!
